Minnesota Judicial Branch announces passing of Lawyers Professional Responsibility Director and Client Security Board Director.

August 7, 2026

ST PAUL, Minn. (Aug. 6,2026) — The Minnesota Judicial Branch is deeply saddened to announce the death of Susan Humiston, the Director of the Minnesota Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility and Client Security Board.

“Susan led work that is essential to protecting the public, upholding the integrity of the legal profession, and helping Minnesota lawyers understand and meet their professional responsibilities,” said Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Natalie Hudson. “She approached that work with exceptional judgment, deep expertise, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to fairness.”

The Minnesota Supreme Court appointed Humiston director of OLPR in 2016. OLPR is an independent agency of the Minnesota Supreme Court established to handle complaints of unprofessional conduct against Minnesota lawyers, including investigating and prosecuting complaints against attorneys warranting professional discipline.

In addition to her work at OLPR, Humiston was a respected voice throughout Minnesota’s legal community. She regularly contributed to continuing legal education programs and had a longtime column in Bench & Bar of Minnesota.

The Branch has named Binh Tuong as acting director of OLPR until a permanent director can be appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
