EAGAN, MN, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Renown bassist and Minnesota blues legend George Moye AKA Dr. Funk announced today he will be inducted into the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame on Sunday, October 18, in Vadnais Heights. Moye built Ford pickup trucks at the company's St. Paul plant. At night and on weekends, he built something else: a career as one of the most respected bass players in blues music. This October, both chapters come together as Moye celebrates two milestones in three days.

In addition to his Hall of Fame induction, Moye is also celebrating his involvement on internationally acclaimed guitarist Bernard Allison — son of blues legend Luther Allison — October 16 release Loving You on Ruf Records. Moye plays bass throughout the 10-track album as part of Allison's core band, alongside guests including Devon Allman, Larry McCray, Matthew Curry and Victor Wainwright.

Two days later, on Sunday, Oct. 18, the Minnesota Blues Society will induct Moye into the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame at Jimmy's Event Center in Vadnais Heights. The honor recognizes musicians who have made a lasting impact on blues in Minnesota.

“I am very humbled by this honor. I have a lot of gratitude for being recognized for all the hard work I have put in over the years,” said Moye, “Knowing my work will always be documented there so future musicians and entertainers can see the legacy left behind and hopefully be inspired.”

Moye's music career has taken him onto stages with some of the biggest names in blues music.

Moye worked for more than 30 years at St. Paul’s Ford plant where he attained a work ethic that he says helped him with his music career. Moye retired from Ford in 2009, just two years before the plant closed. Since retiring, Moye has turned his full attention to the music he had been playing all along.
“Working at the Ford plant taught me about showing up on time. It is something I learned at an early age, since I started there when I was 21 years old,” said Moye. “I learned to carry these principles into the music business as a musician, which helped me be on time knowing your role in the band and being respectful of the other musicians but most of all the music.”

For Allison, working with Moye for more than 16 years has been an experience that he values and cherishes.

“No one is more deserving than Mr. Moye, my long-time bass player who has been my friend and big brother for a long time,” said Allison. “Congratulations, Dr. Funk. You are a legend.”

One of Moye’s peers, Paul Peterson, a renowned Twin Cities musician, says that the accolades being bestowed on Moye are well deserved.

“Since we’re both bass players, George and I don’t get many chances to share a stage. But I’ve had the pleasure of hearing him as a fan, and he’s always rock solid,” said Peterson. “His groove is right where it belongs, and he knows how to support both the song and the musicians around him. George is an incredible player and a true blues legend who shares his talent with audiences around the world.”

From humble beginnings in his native Ohio, to St. Paul’s Ford plant to stages across the country, Moye is reflective of his accomplishments.

“This is truly an honor,” he said. “I am grateful I am still performing.”
